Behold the Man

As a culture, Jesus and His claims offend us.

Our modern sensibilities bristle at Him.

Our religion of self-rule rejects His authority.

Our distain for our parents’ mores mutes His voice.

And yet He still speaks today as the Radical One,

A counter-cultural revolutionary to every era.

We dismiss as too narrow His claim of the only Way,

Yet He invites all who seek Him to follow Him.

We mock as unsophisticated His claim that we need a Savior,

Yet we continually seek one elsewhere only to be let down.

We rebuff as archaic His guidance for human flourishing,

But we reap the destruction of self-rule in our relationships.

The true Jesus has been setting captives free for millennia.

But He is not a neutered, milquetoast teddy bear.

He is the Lion of Judah and the Lamb of God.

He is a Hurricane and a still small voice.

He is the Truth and He demarcates true Love.

He is Lord and shares the throne with no one.

Behold the Man.
